Question about update

Hi! I wanted to know if the information in the update was still correct?

Last December, me and a friend were caught riding the train without a ticket while visiting Copenhague. The only station near where we lived did not have a functionning ticket machine (one had a cracked screen and the other had a black screen). We were in a hurry to get to the airport and were caught... For the record, this was the only time we did not have tickets.

We tried appealing the fine but it did not work. Is it true that they cannot go after us for not paying the fine if we live in another country? We can't afford to pay the fine+the conversion rate and do not feel like the fine is justified.

Thann you in advance!

Thank you for you answer. I currently live in Europe, but I am not a citizen and am planning on going back to my home country (Canada) in the following months.

Avoiding payment of ticket fine.

As is mentioned in several posts, I can not tell you a 100% that they will not go after you especially if I do not know where you live: Europe, USA, AUstralia, etc. and since the police can change their minds about what they wish to pursue. You take your chances especially if you plan to return to Denmark. I can not give any legal advice when I am not an attorney. Information given here is from my personal experience and what others write on the site.

It's true that you don't need the passport to cross the borders but, you do need a passport to identify your self to a police officer if they ask you.
