Dear Charlie,

First of all, my spouse and I are wholeheartedly appreciative for your fantastic and applicable site. At first glance, we figured out this site must be written up and handled by a professional, philanthropic and
affectionate person .We are an Iranian couple who are seeking for their hoped -for dreams in Denmark. Fortunately , one month ago we were told our applications have been granted under Greencard scheme. Thus, we are planing on coming and living in Denmark. I must own up that prior to familiarizing with your site we had despaired of going to Denmark by reason of some disappointing comments which have deliberately or unwittingly, correctly or incorrectly been posted on the foreignersindenmark.dk.Moreover,reading that site had created a warfare and massive disagreement between us. your site could rejuvenate and revive our dissuasive and crestfallen hearts and liven us up again.

Eventually,we meticulously read your site and some questions have come into our minds. Do you mind if I put forward our questions?.

Sincerely yours,

Shahram

Hi Sharam,

I have no problem answering your questions and I am also familiar with many of the problems with the forum site you mentioned. The problem with forums is that people are "too FREE" to express their opinions and people are easily offended. I got the same reaction when I posted a comment to help someone last year. Lots of people leave that community due to minor disagreements that rage into full blown attacks.

Let me see what help I can give you.

Warm greeting from Copenhagen
by: Shahram

Dear Charlie,

Less than a couple weeks ago we came in Denmark and directly went to pension 94 where someday you were there and we accurately lived by whatever you had pointed out and now we have CPR number and our bank accounts moreover tax cards and have enrolled in Danish language classes. The next step will be finding a job according to your guidance.
My wife and I wholeheartedly appreciate for your affectionate and applicable advice which you have written on your valuable web site up. We would like to meet you someday in person when we are able to be a sufficient host.

Sincerely yours,

Shahram

Hi Shahram,

Glad things worked out for you and your wife. Finding a job is an obstacle that many find difficult, but like I have mentioned before, try signing up with a "vikar" or temp agency and let them get you some part time work, while you continue your search for the right job. You may even get lucky and get to temp for a company that you may wish to work for.

Look forward to hearing how it works out for you. Glad I was able to help you and your wife.

An intimate thankfulness
by: Sharam

Dear Charlie,

Your explanations and your guidance deserve the best tributes. Needless to say, your affections will never be forgotten.

Thank you very much,

sincerely yours,

Shahram

You are welcome. As an expat, I have been where you are and only trying to make the transition a little easier. We all have to do it on our own, but giving guidance is just my little way of trying to repay those who helped me when I was a "newbie" expat.

Hello Charlie
by: Shahram

Thank you Charlie for your generosity in passing along information. I hope I can requite your grace.Let me to introduce ourselves. My wife is a medical doctor who is a main applicant and I`m a fresh graduated in an MBA. I have been working for a great and well- known catering company in the south of Iran . Nevertheless, I was a famous manager in that time in my country, my flexibility and my compatibility let me to turn into whatever I am delegated and told in my new life in Denmark.
Charlie! I reflected upon your advice and I have deeply figured out that,as long as, I have not learned Danish Language, the opportunities would not be created for me. So, we `re honest with ourselves and ready to do some odd jobs before getting hold of our real positions.

Charlie! do you mind If I ask you about the address of that pension where you were?

Sincerely thanks and regards,

Shahram,

With your qualifications, I am sure there are possibilities for you, but yes being honest, you may do work that is below your qualifications for awhile, but if one works hard and persists you can attain the job you seek.

The pension is called Pension 94, located on Vesterbrogade 94 in vesterbro (post code is 1620).
Phone number is +45 33256868. It was not much of a place back than and have not been back there in years, but if you can find a room you will at least have a base from which to work out of and you can search for a better residence.

Hello Charlie
by: Shahram

Thank you for the reply. With your permission I`m going to enlist my questions and sorry for taking your valuable time up.

A)For getting the CPR is it necessary to have a home contract? I mean is not possible to be in a hotel or hostel and get a CPR?.

B)What`s your opinion about the most affordable and suitable area in Copenhagen and its suburb for new comers such us?

C)And my last question is about current job market in Denmark for people who don`t know Danish Language.

Best regards,

Shahram

Answer:

You have to have a permanant address in order to get your CPR number and a hotel is rarely accepted. That said there are some temporary accommodations that might be acceptable. Once you are here, it is best to go to the office on Dahhlerupsgade and talk to them about it. On my first trip to Denmark (back in the 80s), I was living in a pension on Vesterbrogade and got my CPR number based on that address. You just need to remember that you have to update your CPR card everytime you move.

2. The least expensive place to live in Copenhagen is in the Nørrebrogade area of the city (northwest corrider), but you can also look into the suburbs along the major train lines. Going south along the coast to places like Brøndby Strand, Vallensbæk, etc. you may be able to find some cheaper accommodations. Check out the accommodations sections of this site for more information.

3. Copenhagen is a metropolitan city, so many companies do speak english and many companies are making english the main language, but that is still a small number. Many people survive on English, but I really do suggest you learn some basic Danish. There is a good course in the language section by Transparant and it is affordable and gives you a really good start. Well worth the small investment.

If you do not have a job offer, I would highly recommend that you find one before coming to Denmark, since the job market is still very stagnant and many people are jobless.
