Budget Eating Tips Last year a local paper put out a list of Copenhagen restaurants to help people experience more of the eclectic dining available in this wonderful city. Check out their list below, which includes restaurants, cafes and bars compiled by The Copenhagen Post. You can always search for them individually on the Internet for more details, but this will give you a good idea of the many places on offer. Copenhagen Guide to RestaurantsAkvavit Gammel Strand 44, Cph City; 11.00-24.00; 3332 8844 Nice view over the canals and excellent cuisine. Instead of having wine with your meal, try sampling their extensive menu of snaps (a traditional Danish alcohol and a specialty of the restaurant). Al Mercante Bredgade 29, Cph City; Open Mon-Sat 11.00-16.00 & 18.00-24.00, Fri-Sat bar until 02.00, closed Sundays; 3313 2911 Walking into the back rooms of Al Mercante certainly makes you feel like you have found a hidden secret in Copenhagen, as the two large back rooms of the restaurant are both invisible from the discrete facade on Skt Annæ Plads / Bredgade, just a stone's throw away from Amalienborg Palace. The food at Al Mercante is good, but as a venue it may be better for an office or family gathering, or with a few friends before a night out, rather than a delicate meal with your loved one. Alberto K Radisson SAS Royal Hotel, Hammerischsage, Cph Vesterbro; Mon-Fri 12.00-14.30, 18.00-24.00, Sat 18.00-24.00; 3342 6161 Altopalato Duntzfelts Alle 3, Cph Hellerup; Mon-Sat 17.30-22.00 (kitchen only); 3961 9405 Altopalato is known as one of the most highly regarded Italian restaurants in town, but the heydays seem to be over for this - very busy - little restaurant. It serves rustic Italian food and has a good wine selection, although the food does not live up to the stiff prices. Make sure you book a table in advance, as this place is filled even on a Monday. Amaranto Solbjergvej 6, Cph Frederiksberg; Mon-Wed 11.00-23.00, Thur-Sat 11.00-02.00 (sometimes until 05.00). Closed Sundays; 3833 3810 The words “Cocina Mexicana” may conjure up images of your typical Danish-Mexican diner; i.e., plates of nachos, lame sombreros on the wall and cheesy music. Thankfully, Amaranto is no theme restaurant. A newish place in a former train station, conveniently located right next to Frederiksberg metro station, Amaranto serves nice (but not quite exquisite) Mexican dishes at prices on the high side. The elegant venue plays host to a variety of genres of live music including flamenco, soul, Cuban, jazz-Latin and more. Aréna Café Skindergade 20, Cph City; Sun-Thu 11-24, Fri-Sat 11-05; 3332 2720 Aréna is an unpretentious central city restaurant serving Lebanese specialities. The service and value for money are tiptop. A real find in the old city centre. Atlas Bar Larsbjørnstræde 18, Cph City; Mon-Sat 12.00-22.00 (Sun closed); 3315 0352 This colorful basement bar-café-restaurant serves excellent "world food" and is a favorite of the local trendies. Several vegetarian meals and generous portions; relaxed and friendly service. A must! Auberge Østerbrogade 64, Cph Østerbro; Mon-Sat 18.00-24.00; 3535 3900 Auberge is the latest and most upscale addition to the Cofoco coterie of good value gourmet food eateries. Located in the cellar beneath deli/take-away Le Marché on Østerbrogade, this little space attracts a mix of corporate types, Østerbro locals and couples to its six-course dinner (450kr). Bagatellen Tivoli, Vesterbrogade 3, Cph City; 12-24 (Fri-Sat 12-01); 3375 0751 The restaurant is a beautiful circular room with an ancient look and a round patio overlooking the Tivoli lake; the setting is fabulous. A favorite of the business-hip crowd, the fish restaurant is quite expensive but the value for money is good for Tivoli. Barbarellah Nørre Farimagsgade 41, Cph City; Sun-Wed 10-24, Thur-Sat 10.00-02.00; 3332 0061 Barbarellah is the latest addition to the boho, laid-back Nansensgade quarter which is currently giving Pisserenden a run for its money in terms of hipness. The Latin-American Bascunan siblings Daniel, Pablo and the eponymous Barbarah are the creators of this cocktail bar/lounge/café concept and there is definitely some kind of “latin spirit” imbued in the place, from the beats in the background to the wicked cocktails. The food is decent and the kitchen closes at 1.30 at the weekend; refreshing in a city where it’s difficult to get something decent to eat after 10pm. Barcelona Fælledvej 21, Cph Nørrebro; 11-02 (Thu-Sat 11-05, Sun 11-22); 3535 7611 Lively Spanish café with a tiny outdoor service area and a very good traditional French/Spanish restaurant on the first floor. In the back, a small room with the DJ playing soul or R&B.; Bastionen & Løven Christianshavns Voldgade 50, Cph Christianshavn; Daily 10.00-24.00; 3295 0940 Absolutely romantic setting: sit inside in an old mill or outside in a green, lush garden. Fine traditional Danish food. A Christianshavn landmark. Beghuset Strandgade 14, Cph Dragør; Tue-Sun 12-15 and 18-21.45, Mon closed; 3253 0136 Situated in Dragør, a cosy and fairytale-like fishing village just outside Copenhagen. Bombay Lavendelsstræde 11-13, Cph City; 16-23, Closed Mon; 3393 9298 Deep blue walls, Indian art and the simple decor make this place cool, collected and low-key classy. This Northern Indian restaurant accommodates more European tastes, with its mildly spicy and good value food. Brasserade Fælledvej 7, Cph City; Daily 17.30-24; 3536 4494 Brasserade is a restaurant with small grills on the tables. This gives the meals a special atmosphere, relaxed and casual. Brasserie Degas Jernbanegade 7, Cph City; Fri-Sat 10.00-03.00, Sun-Thur 10.00-01.00; 3311 0891 Traditional French restaurant completed with chic staff and high quality food. Brasserie Degas is also serving cafe food throughout the day. Brewpub Copenhagen Vestergade 29, Cph City; 3332 0060 Located near Rådhuspladsen, this is an ideal spot to enjoy your brew, on its own or with your choice of pub grub or an elegant two- or three-course meal (260kr, 315kr). Their beer menu features both in-house beers and an assortment of foreign and domestic microbrews. Café a Porta Kongens Nytorv 17, Cph City; Mon - Thu 11.00-24.00, Fri 11.00-01.00, Sat 10.00-01.00, Sun 10.00-18.00; 3311 0500 This stylish classic café/brasserie has a historic past and has been restored with high expertise by one of Denmark's famous families (Fabricius-Bjerre). The French menu has slowly given way to a more local Danish menu card. Prices agree with location and service. Café Europa Amager Torv 1, Cph City; Mon-Thu 9-23; Fri-Sat 9-24; Sun 10-20; 3314 2889 An institution in Copenhagen's café life and one of its most centrally located eateries, slap bang in the middle of the walking streets. Europa is pricey, but it attracts a real mixture of people, from tourists to trendies. Café Kok Rømersgade 25a, Cph City; Tue & Wed & Sun 11-22, Thu-Sat 11-24; 3393 6460 Bright basement restaurant with sharp design and a simple and short menu. Well prepared meals and sandwiches; menu changes every month. Café Konjak H. C. Ørstedsvej 46, Cph Frederiksberg; Mon-Thu 11-23, Fri 11-02, Sat 10-02, Sun 10-22; 3535 3552 As a café, Konjak is great; as a restaurant, it is nice enough; as a place to chill, it is awesome. Konjak provides a little bit of everything for just about everybody. Café Marius Nørre Farimagsgade 55, Cph City; Tues-Wed 12.00-23.00, Thu 12.00-01.00, Fri 12.00-02.00, Sat 11.00-02.00, Sun 11.00-16.00; 3311 8383 Café Marius is a gem of a café. Soft, jazzy music provides a mellow, almost grown-up atmosphere, yet it is refreshingly relaxed and unstuffy for a city center eatery. If you are hankering after that American touch, try the weekend brunch: a large plate of scrambled eggs, hash browns, bacon, a fresh toasted bagel with butter and jam, rye bread, heaps of beautifully-cut exotic fruit and fluffy, fruit-filled American pancakes. The homemade pasta is also a must-have. Café Nani's Finsensvej 18, Cph Fredriksberg; Mon-Sat 10.30-24.00, Sun 11.00-21.00; 3810 2202 This cafe is the only place in Copenhagen that can boast of over 35 water pipes. It could be mistaken for a hotel lobby in Cairo with its mismatch of Western and Egyptian paraphernalia. Don't miss the belly dancers every Friday. Café Noakhali Smallegade 22, Copenhagen Frederiksberg; Mon - Thu 10.00 - 22.00, Fri - Sat 10.00 - 23.00, Sun 10.00 -21.00 (kitchen closes half hour before); 3810 8686 The latest newcomer to the globalization of Copenhagen's brunch menu is Café Noakhali in central Frederiksberg. Noakhali is a very bright, attractive eating spot, which combines Bangladeshi and Danish influences. Try the vegetarian “Bangla brunch”, served daily from 10.00 - 14.00 and consisting of Bangladeshi specialities including chai tea and mango juice, fried potato strips (aloo bassi), tiny vegetable samosas and natural yogurt with muesli and coconut (narikel dhoi). Café Oliver’s Nørre Farimagsgade 63, Cph City; Mon-Thu 10.00-23.00, Fri & Sat 10.00-05.00, Sun 10.00-18.00; 3391 4555 Located on the busy intersection of Nørre Farimagsgade and Frederiksborggade, Café Oliver's is in the former location of café/bar Skurks. Although under new ownership since the first of August, the interior is virtually the same, with the typical pared-down and sleekly tasteful Danish design highlighted with high ceilings and big windows looking out on the busy crossroads. The crowd is an assorted bunch of trendy, upscale types mixed in with a more mature clientele. The menu is short but sweet, containing both the typical café classics such as burgers (85kr), nachos (65kr) and sandwiches (85kr), as well as Danish dishes such as fried fish (85kr). Café Øresund Strandvejen 343, Skovshoved, Klampenborg; Sun-Thu 10-23, Fri-Sat 10-02; 3964 4050 Øresund has something for everybody: the pub has a run-down sleazy atmosphere, and yet the restaurant is classy enough for a proper dinner with all the trimmings. The food is either very traditional Danish or haute cuisine, but tasty anyhow. Café Sorte Hest Vesterbrogade 135, Cph Vesterbro; Mon - Fri 12.00 - 24.00, Weekends 11.00 - 24.00; 3325 2008 Located at the end of Vesterbrogade, Café Sorte Hest (The Black Horse) is at the crossroads between Frederiksberg's mellow suburbia and the relative grittiness of the city's “West Side”. Former ballet dancer, Adrienne, is in the process of transforming Café Sorte Hest into a bijou cultural venue with poetry, art displays and a fortnightly jazz night. With its laid-back, cultural vibe and good value dishes, Café Sorte Hest is a decent, low-key neighborhood joint. Café Stella Kompagnistræde 18, Cph City; Daily from 10.00 - 22.30; 3315 1900 On the corner of Kompagnistræde and Knabrostrædet, just off the main walking street, the two-floored eatery is a good place to stop for a light bite or java jolt while shopping, or perhaps end the day with a burger, pasta or salad. Stella also offers a brunch buffet from 10.00-16.00 at the weekends (69kr). Cafe Truffle Copenhagen Vestergade 29, Cph City; Mon-Sat 11-24, Sun closed; 3313 1500 Stylish restaurant with charming courtyard in downtown Copenhagen. Café Truffle serves worldly food with great skill, taking inspiration from diverse places such as Africa, Asia and Europe. Expensive, but well worth the price. Café Valhalla Blågårdsgade 21, Cph Nørrebro; Mon - Fri 11.30 - 24.00, Sat 10.00 - 24.00, Sun 10.00 - 23.00; 3534 3647 Surprisingly, Valhalla is the first Viking-themed cafe in the city and looks set to become a cult classic. The lunch menu consists of sandwiches and main courses all named after the Viking gods, such as the Grendal burger (109kr) and a Gilling (grilled aubergine) sandwich (69kr). Order in advance if you dare try the Odin burger (299kr), a chunk of meat so large (1500 grams), it must be ordered a day earlier so that the bread can be specially prepared. If you manage to finish this meat-feast in under an hour, Café Valhalla will give you the meal for free - a challenge that has yet to be overcome. The café also offers Viking horns, belts and other gifts for purchase as well as an evening menu with Antipodean-influenced Malaysian swordfish curry (129kr). Cap Horn Nyhavn 21 Cph City; 11.30-01.00; 3312 8504 Famous old-fashioned rustic restaurant in Nyhavn. Always busy, Cap Horn was one of the first eco restaurants in the city; the décor is an authentic "fisherman’s inns" style. A classic, and reasonably priced for the area. Caribbean Cafe and Cocktail Bar Fredriksborggade 31, Cph City; Sun-Tue 10.00-24.00, Wed & Thur 10.00-02.00, Fri & Sat 10.00-04.00; 3312 9090 The Caribbean Bar's homely atmosphere captures the Caribbean spirit in its cozy and relaxed location next to Café Klimt. Tropical island details include drums in the corner, handicrafts decorating the bar and mellow reggae music. The large portions of food are fresh, tasty and good value. House DJ on Thursday to Saturday nights. Castel Gothersgade 35, Cph City; Mon-Sat; 3313 6282 Castel in Gothersgade was taken over by a team of French restaurateurs during summer 2003. The establishment is still splendid from its multi-million-looking renovation a couple of years ago (it was one of Copenhagen's finest restaurants before it went bust). The menu is certainly French, with côte de boeuf and chocolate mousse, but the renowned chef, Bertrand le Bras, takes influences from the whole world with savoir-faire. While both setting and gastronomy are top-notch, the prices are average / low for the introduction period of the new team. Grab the chance before prices catch up with the standards! Charlottenlund Fortets Restaurant Strandvejen 150, Cph Charlottenlund; 17-22 (Summer 12-16); 3962 2263 Fantastic panoramic view of the sea between Sweden and Denmark with outdoor terrace above the beach. Chic and prestigious. Chili Vandkunsten 1, Cph City; Mon-Sat 10.00-23.00, Sun 11.00-22.00; 3391 1918 Colorful burger restaurant and café, playing loud mixed music. Students and kids enjoy making their own burgers on their table, but really the service is so-so and it is rather overpriced. Chips Øster Farimagsgade 53, Cph Østerbro; 16-23 (Sat-Sun closed); 3538 4791 Charming café, restaurant and gallery with jazzy live events, bridge club and a little terrace, in a really quiet part of town. The restaurant serves every meal with potatoes, and the prices are as appealing as the atmosphere. Christianshavn Bådudlejning & Cafe Ovengaden Neden Vanden 29, Cph Christianshavn; Daily 11.00-24.00; 3296 5353 This floating platform, almost hidden under Torvgade, is known as the place to rent row boats to discover the Christianshavn canals independently - but it is now a very popular and charismatic outdoor cafe. Circus Rosenvængets Alle 7, Cph Østerbro; Mon-Thu 10-24, Fri-Sat 10-01, Closed Sun; 3555 7772 In one of Østerbro’s cozy little streets lies the Circus café and restaurant. The skillful décor of this tiny restaurant makes use of the building's original 19th century frescoes. Circus offers excellent lunch food and a good value dinner, with the intriguing Italian 'sushi' - fresh Italian ingredients made up Japanese style. Cofoco Istedgade 100, Cph Vesterbro; Shop: Mon-Sat 11.00-21.00; Sunday dinner: 17.00-22.00; 2144 0231 Cofoco, or Copenhagen Food Consulting, is not really a restaurant as such; it's more of a delicatessen, ice-cream parlor and sandwich shop, which conveniently serves dinner on Sundays. The prices are drop dead friendly, the setting glam and the waitresses good-looking. At 50kr, you can get a well-prepared meal to take home that would cost much more in a restaurant. A great value concept. Cofoco le Marché Værnedamsvej 2, Cph Vesterbro; Daily 11.00 - 20.00; www.cofoco.dk Cofoco is a fresh team specializing in delicate food at very affordable prices. They started a couple of years ago with a Sunday only formula on Istedgade (with dinner take-away - only on Sundays - at 50kr). Now they run two restaurants: Cofoco and Les Trois Cochons. Le Marché is their newest venture, which opened in early March: a shop selling good take-away dinner meals for 50kr. Cofoco Restaurant Abel Cathrines Gade 7, Cph Vesterbro; Tue-Sat 18.00-23.00; 3313 6060 Following the success of Cofoco Sunday (Istedgade 100, Cph Vesterbro) that opened earlier this year, Cofoco (COpenhagen FOod COnsulting), is a clean, elegant and lively restaurant, located in a cellar in the heart of Vesterbro. The concept is a slight expansion on the Cofoco Sunday concept: an elegant yet unpretentious setting, elegant yet unpretentious cuisine, sharp and efficient service, three courses (two hundred kroner). Long tables where people dining in pairs sit face to face creates countless social interactions during dinner, with bread and mineral water exchange; an easy opportunity to meet new people if you are in the mood for it. Cofoco is really a find, and is currently buzzing, so booking is essential. Columbus Nørrebrogade 22, Cph. Nørrebro; Thu-Sat 17-23, disco until 05.; 3537 0051 Very good French-Danish restaurant overlooking busy Nørrebrogade; colourful and lively with nice service. Salsa discotheque on the first floor with a real salsa atmosphere created by the Hispanic community of Copenhagen. Combo's Nansensgade 24, Cph City; Mon-Thu 10-23; Fri-Sat 10-24; Sun 10-20; 3332 9565 Nansensgade is a place where tradition meets with an air of creativity and multi-ethnic diversity. Combo's is a new establishment that is already becoming a favorite with locals, blending café/restaurant/catering with outdoor sitting. Cristal Palace Saxogade 3, Cph Vesterbro; Mon-Sat 11.00-24.00; 3321 6152 Everything here from the red brothel-like wallpaper to the crystal chandelier and zebra skin by the bar speaks of decadence. It is a small taste of Paris in Copenhagen serving rustic French cuisine and generous portions at middle price.
D'Angelo Store Kongensgade 44, Cph City; Mon-Sat 17.00-24.00 Closed Sunday;3393 6929 D'Angelo is an authentic Italian restaurant serving fresh and traditional Italian dishes. In addition to the restaurant, D'Angelo also includes a food cellar/deli, offering pizza, pasta and sandwiches every day. Dan Turéll Store Regnegade 3-5, Cph City; Daily 10-01 (Fri-Sat 10-04, Sun 11-01); 314 1047 Stylish with a hint of the Parisian, this is a funky, buzzing place to eat, or the perfect café-restaurant where you can spend some hours admiring some new fashion trends worn by its gorgeous patrons. It’s one of Copenhagen's oldest cafes. Darling Enghave Plads 9, Cph Vesterbro; Daily 10.00-02.00; 3331 8419 Fits right in with its location in the trendy end of Vesterbro with its own blend of cocktails, music and café cuisine. Cocktails, good selection of international beer and many visiting DJs. Try the bar's signature “absinthe and chilli” shot discovered one day by accident. De Gaulle Kronborggade 3, Cph Nørrebro; 18.00-24.00, Sun closed; 3585 5866 A chic little French place for the under-50 set, more funky than stuffy, in out-of-the-way Nørrebro. The set menu changes every two weeks, but the house specialty, fois gras, is a constant, and diners choose the number of courses based on appetite. An accompanying menu of wines is designed to bring out the flavors in each course. Delicatessen Restaurant Vesterbrogade 120 Cph Vesterbro; Daily 11.00-22.00; 3322 1633 Minimalist-style restaurant in a corner of Vesterbro with its own charm and local atmosphere. The menu is modern and international at a very reasonable price. The place can also get lively on weekends, especially for the DJ events on Saturdays. Den Gule Cottage Strandevejen 506, Cph Klampenborg (30 min north of Copenhagen); Mon-Sat 12.00-14.00 and 18.00-24.00 (kitchen closing at 22.00); 3964 0691 Facing the sea on the coastal road, Strandvejen, the Cottage offers its guests a romantic and personal dining experience with seating for only 28. The Cottage was built in 1926 and is famous for its first-class traditional French/Italian cuisine. The team at Den Gule Cottage keeps the standards of this landmark venue where they should be - at the high end. Den Gyldne Fortun Ved Stranden 18, Cph Østerbro; 3312 2011 Chic fish restaurant opposite the parliament. Choose your lobster from the tank. Double Happiness Gammel Kongevej 33, Cph Frederiksberg; 12-22; 3123 3667 Good little Chinese restaurant. Very good value for money.
Eat Hovedvagtsgade 8, Cph City; Tues & Wed 18.00 - 22.00, Thu - Sat 18.00 - 03.00, Mon closed; 3333 9997 Hot spot for tasty eats and pre-clubbing, Eat is all black leather benches, dim lighting and lounge-y chill music. The food concept is tapas/tasting menu style, where you pay for a succession of small plates of accomplished and tasty food. If you can handle the level of trendiness, it's a good place for a few drinks, too. e-go Hovedvagtsgade 2, Cph City; Mon-Thu 11.30-24.00, Fri 11.30-02.00, Sat 11.00-02.00, Sun 11.00-24.00; 3312 7971 Opened in June by acclaimed restaurant Kokkeriet's owner, Mikkel Shafi, e-go takes over where the Olsen brothers' former restaurant “Egoisten” left off. Located just off Kongens Nytorv, brasserie e-go is smaller than you would expect from the outside, yet still very cozy with an unusual corrugated ceiling, a comfy, padded corner table and upscale, trendy vibe. The music adds to the atmosphere: sophisticated mellow beats, soul and easy listening. At the weekend, take advantage of e-go's wine/cocktail list and its late kitchen, which stays open until 1:30am; a rare treat here in Copenhagen.
El Mirasol Dag Hammerskjolds Alle 7, Cph Østerport; 3542 9070 Situated opposite the American embassy, Restaurant El Mirasol attracts a mixed crowd of Danes and foreigners. The restaurant itself is fairly small and intimate with an old hand painted ceiling. It fills up very quickly at the weekends. El Tapeo Peder Hvidfeldts Straede 15, Cph K; Mon-Sat 11.30-24.00, closed Sundays; 3393 1166 El Tapeo is a simple but charming place, with wooden floors, unadorned walls and a low, timbered ceiling. Lit up with plenty of candles, it had a warm and welcoming atmosphere for couples looking for a cozy place to talk in, or for larger groups to do some socializing. You can drop in for an after-work plate of tapas and glass of wine, or have more substantial fare in the upstairs room. Els Store Strandstræde 3, Cph City; Weekdays 17-24; 3314 1341 Located at the corner of Nyhavn and Kongens Nytorv, this impressive restaurant is decorated with historic frescoes. Era Ora Overgaden Neden Vandet 33B, Cph Christianhavn; Mon-Sat Lunch 12.00-15.00, Dinner 18.30-24.00; 3254 0693 So many good things have been said about Era Ora that the actual food and wine is forced into defensive position. But the never-ending succession of fresh, light Umbrian dishes and perfectly chosen wine selection in this Michelin-starred restaurant cannot fail to satisfy expectations. Very simple combinations of food mean that quality ingredients are all given their moment of glory - the philosophy at the essence of Era Ora. One of the best (and most expensive) restaurants in Copenhagen. Eugene Vesterbrogade 83, Cph Vesterbro; Mon-Wed 11.00-24.00, Thu-Fri 11.00-02.00, Sun 10.00-24.00; 3325 1819 This little spot in Vesterbro offers good quality food for reasonable prices and a warm, welcoming staff. The interior could stand some redecorating, however.
Fabio Wine & Cheese Bar Falkoner Alle 56, Cph Frederiksberg; Mon-Wed 16.00 - 22.00, Thu & Fri 16.00 - 23.00, Sat 13.00 - 23.00, Sun 13.00 - 20.00 (kitchen shuts one hour before closing); 3537 9977 Fabio leaves his home-cooking legacy behind at the award-winning Lagano pizza bar on Dronningens Tværgade. At his elegant, new neighborhood restaurant in Frederiksberg , the downstairs area serves as the wine-bar, where one can enjoy a few glasses of specially-sourced Italian wines and a casual plate of food, whereas the upstairs area will be dedicated to the full-blown dining experience. Faergen Ellen Takkelloftvej 1, Cph City / Holmen; Daily 11.30 - 21.30; 2946 5417 The panoramic view from Færgen Ellen is one of the best in Copenhagen, almost spectacular in that Holmen is the part of Copenhagen which has undergone the most tumultuous changes in the past five years. This small family-run ferryboat café-restaurant offers a Sunday brunch (125kr) where everything from the crispy potatoes to the homemade jam, in thick yogurt - not to mention the fruit shake - is excellent. Fifty Fifty Vesterbrogade 42, Copenhagen Vesterbro; Tues-Wed 11.30 - 23.00 (kitchen closes 22.00), Thurs-Sun 11.30 - 24.00 (kitchen closes 23.00); 3322 4757 A modern Japanese restaurant, Fifty Fifty aims to take the usual Asian-food cantina concept up a few notches, with imaginative fusion food and impeccable service. Figaro Bistrot Vinbar Willemoesgade 31, Cph Østebro; Mon-Thu 12.00-24.00, Fri-Sat 12.00-02.00, Sun 12.00-22.00; 3538 7800 Østebro's lively new wine bar has around 250 bottles in the menu, and from these around 40 can be ordered by the glass. Frederiks Have Smalegade 41, Cph Frederiksberg; Mon-Sat 14.30 and 17.00-24.00; 3888 3335 This is a little pearl hidden away in the bushes of Frederiksberg Garden serving a Danish-French cuisine. The modern interior does not create that cold look found in so many new restaurants around town, but works well with the dark wooden chairs and colorful art on the walls. Fregatten Sct George III Tivoli, Vesterbrogade 3, Cph City; 12.00 - 24.00 (Kitchen closes at 10.00) ;3315 9204 A national symbol and cultural institution in the center of Copenhagen, Tivoli has an abundance of performances, concerts and restaurants in a magically lit setting. Since you are doing the theme park thing anyway, you may as well push the boat out and eat on board the twee Fregatten (the Frigate), located in Tivoli's willow-lined lake. The decent food, warm service and view over the incandescent gardens of Tivoli are the reasons to eat here. Fuego Holbergsgade 14, Cph City; Mon-Thu 18.00-01.00, Fri-Sat 18.00-03.00, club nights on weekends; 3313 1171 Fuego (Spanish for 'fire') specializes in Argentine meats and wine and also has a growing events calendar with quality club nights, live music and tango shows. The food keeps the pace: dishes such as the platter of guinea hen wrapped in bacon, king shrimp, crab rolls, and empanada (145kr) provide evidence of the cross-pollination of immigrant communities that has influenced the Argentine kitchen. However, beef is the cornerstone of Argentine cuisine and at Fuego the huge meat platters are top-notch. There is also solid collection of Argentine wines. Nightclub Fri and Sat until 4.00am; 3393 2929 Über-trendy Konrad is supposedly a tribute to restaurateur and designer, Sir Terence Conran, whose super cool restaurants are peppered around central London and Paris. However, it's not a case of form over content as the food, which plunders from the global kitchen, is very good, although the prices could do with a bit of slimming down. After dark, Konrad turns into the city's ultimate yuppie eatery/cocktail bar and nightclub with a reputation for attracting the beautiful in-crowd by guest list only. Krogs Fiskerestaurant Gammel Strand 38, Cph City; Mon - Sat 12.00 - 24.00 (Lunch served until 15.00); 3315 8915 Krogs does have a reputation for being one of the best restaurants in Copenhagen and 350kr for a three-course lunch in a restaurant that charges the same amount as a minimum for an evening main course is a bargain - of sorts.
