Car registration

by Mrs. Jane
(Lolland Denmark)

We moved to Denmark, nearly 10 years ago, from the uk, we are now wanting to sell our house on Lolland.
We took our car with us, its a BMW 1996, we knew cars was expensive here, so we decided to bring it, and ofcause we had to pay the fee, Skat/Tax have to put a value on it, they said 89.000 danish kroner, no way, I told them it was a right hand drive, no chance of selling it here, anyway I kept on writing to them, telling them it was to much, remember its a right hand drive, in the mean time I wrote to Brussells, and they are very helpful, they told me at the time there was a court case pending , as denmark was not following the rules, new rules were implemented, so I kept on writing to them, and in the end we paid 30.000 danish kroner, still a lot cheaper than buying a car here, and we have still got it.
So to anyone keep at it, its worth it, if you like your car.
i am a dane, my husband is english, I lived in the Uk for 29 years, so its a long time to be away, and I could see things have changed, ofcause they do, but I do find things are very complicated here, I will never get used to the system.
Good luck to you all.

Response: Jane, thanks for that story, maybe wish I had done that with my cars when I moved here from the UK. Ending up selling both in UK and still having to pay way too much for a car here, that was a lot less car than I had in UK. Now the laws are under review and maybe th 180% tax may be revoked. That would be great - could afford a nice new car.
